I am an artist drawn to the fluid, ever-evolving nature of materials and the meanings they carry.
My creative practice is an exploration of transformation, an ongoing conversation between medium and process. Working across photography, sculpture, and painting, I infuse life into two-dimensional imagery through tearing, fracturing, scratching, bending, duplicating, and layering. These interventions give rise to works that are not fixed, but in a continual state of flux, embodying the essence of change itself.
In my latest work, each piece begins with broken glass, which I use not only as a tool but as a metaphor. The shards guide the movement of pigment, allowing color to flow unpredictably and settle into organic, often unrepeatable forms. The fractures create space and structure, leaving behind gaps that hold as much meaning as the painted areas. These white spaces are moments of stillness and reflection, highlighting the balance between chaos and clarity.
Through the deliberate disruption of materials, I seek to evoke the transient nature of memory, dreams, and emotions – where shattering, layering, and color blending come together to form new, fluid, organic narratives. The glass speaks to the fragility and fragmentation of our current world. Within the cracks I find, and hope to share, a quiet beauty, a sense of tension, and a kind of resilience. My process is both intuitive and intentional: I follow where the materials lead while staying grounded in an awareness of contrast, rhythm, and emotional tone.
By disrupting the surface, I aim to reveal the deeper emotional currents beneath, offering the viewer a visceral connection to internal struggles and the unseen. The act of distressing materials becomes a metaphor for peeling back layers of existence – exposing raw, unspoken truths and forms that reflect universal human experience. My work becomes a vessel for exploring the tumultuous beauty of life, embodying its constant state of flux, both through the materials I use and the concepts they convey. It invites viewers to reflect on life’s cyclical rhythms and to notice and engage with its shifting, ephemeral nature.
I hold an MFA in Visual Arts from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, along with a BS in Photojournalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. My education also includes further studies at Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design, Museum School, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
My professional work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Francis W. Hatch Awards from the Advertising Club of Boston, the Design Excellence Award from Print Magazine, The New York Art Directors Club, The One Show, and the Thomas Edison Award for Science Advertising. It has been exhibited at venues including the Nesto Gallery at Milton Academy, New Art Center in Newton, the Richmond Art Center Gallery, Art in the Park in Worcester, MA, and Chesterwood in Stockbridge, MA.
As a visiting artist, I’ve had the opportunity to share my creative process with students and artists at institutions like St. Paul’s School in NH , Milton Academy and Forest Hills Cemetery, encouraging others to see transformation in the everyday.
Beyond the studio, my interests span from road and mountain biking, to skiing, golf, playing old-time banjo, coaching and playing hockey, and hiking in the desert Southwest.
A deeply meaningful part of my life is the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), where I’ve combined my passion for biking with cancer research. Over the past 37 years, I’ve raised over $900,000 for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, leading a PMC team that has collectively raised $7 million.
Gardening is also a significant part of my life. Whether cultivating hostas, dahlias, orchids, hydrangeas, vegetables, or cactus, I find inspiration in the growth and transformation that plants embody as an extension of my artistic exploration of color, change and life cycles.
Every aspect of my life informs my art, creating a dynamic relationship where experience and expression evolve in tandem. The journey of transformation continues and I remain ever-curious and passionate about the discoveries yet to come.
